SKIN ART vs CANVAS
Rebel City Tattoo is owned and operated by Chris McNeill and Erin Lung. This custom tattoo studio opened in 2010 and made its debut home on Waterloo Road next door to the world famous Beachland Ballroom. Both McNeill and Lung knew where they wanted to be when they opened and where they wanted to stay when they grew too big for their space. Erin Lung shared, “It was important for us to stay on Waterloo, where Rebel City Tattoo was born. Being in a neighborhood that genuinely supports the arts and artists and in the development, road construction, galleries, record stores and world class concert venues, it becomes a no brainer. Waterloo is our home. So when we outgrew our old studio and the chance to move into the Zaller Building, we jumped on it. We couldn’t ask for a better fit at this point.”
The new location feels like a fine art studio. With an open floor plan, hardwood floors, plenty of light, one would think you were visiting a painter’s studio. Artist themselves, McNeill and Lung create masterpieces on skin as opposed to canvas. With samples of their work displayed as fine art in an exhibit, the new space is a great way to showcase their body of work.
Rebel City is a fully custom tattoo studio that keeps a busy schedule without doing much advertising. Since McNeill and Lung were not looking for retail traffic, the storefront wasn’t a necessary component in their new search. Rebel City Tattoo is open by APPOINTMENT ONLY and assigns the time appropriately for each individual customer. It eliminates the stress of constantly starting and stopping to greet a customer or deal with the phones. Their new space, located about a minute from its old location, is part of an arts complex. The Zaller Building, home to a professional print shop, a gallery, an outdoor sculpture garden and a marketing office, was a perfect fit for their studio model business. Rebel City Tattoo is located at 16006 Waterloo Road in Cleveland Ohio.
